Arugula & Eczema
Extremely rare allergen — only 4–5 cases worldwide. All reacted to raw only; cooking eliminated the problem. Safe for virtually all people with eczema.

Reaction Timeline
All reported cases involved immediate reactions (urticaria, OAS, one anaphylaxis case) to raw arugula. No delayed eczema-specific reactions documented.
How Much Is Needed To React?
Too few cases to determine threshold. If you suspect arugula, simply avoid it raw and test cooked.
Does Preparation Matter?
All reported allergic reactions occurred to RAW arugula only. Cooking appears to denature the responsible allergens completely. If you react to raw arugula salad but not cooked greens, this supports arugula allergy with heat-labile allergens. [26]
Also Watch Out For...
Other Brassicaceae (unlikely — no established cross-reactivity)
Mugwort pollen — theoretical Brassicaceae/mugwort cross-reactivity but not documented for arugula
What To Use Instead
Baby spinach (for salads — note: spinach is on the trigger list for histamine)
Watercress (peppery flavor, different species)
Endive or radicchio (for bitter salad greens)
Hidden Sources
This food is relatively easy to avoid. Check: 1. Pre-made salad mixes (arugula/rocket common)
2. Pizza topping (fresh arugula added after baking)
3. Pesto (some recipes use arugula instead of basil)
