Tips To Become More Grateful

Shifting to a mindset of gratitude has shown to do wonders for our health. Researchers have discovered that it helps to boost our immune system, lowers blood pressure and decreases stress levels. All by adopting a more grateful way of life!

Here are some tips to help you get started on your gratitude journey:

  1. Start your day off right by smiling at the first person you see. It’ll elevate both your and their day!
  2. Show appreciation for others throughout the day. Expressing gratitude to your friends, family, and colleagues is an excellent way of building trust and cultivating solid relationships.
  3. In the evening, say aloud three good things that have happened. Whether it's around the dinner table or when you’re winding down to sleep. This act alone has been shown to boost the happy chemicals in our brain.
  4. Don’t forget to thank yourself. Showing gratitude doesn’t and shouldn’t always be focused on others. It’s essential to take time out for some self-appreciation.
  5. If you find yourself complaining to yourself or others, take a pause. Try to focus on your breaths and remind yourself of 5 things you’re thankful for. This can be as simple as the air you breathe in or a recent meal.
  6. Find the silver linings. As the saying goes, “Not every day is good, but there’s something good in every day”. So even when things aren’t great, try to hone in on the positives.
  7. Focus on others, not yourself. Avoid focusing on your inner narrative about how things could or should have gone. Instead, having empathy and thinking through the impact of your actions on others is an excellent way of developing gratitude.
  8. Shift your perspective. If you’re struggling to find something you’re grateful for, put yourself in others’ shoes. Picture those less fortunate than you who don’t have the basic necessities you might take for granted.
  9. Hold onto the good. If you notice you’re feeling joyful during the day, really try to focus on the feeling. Later in the day, you’ll be able to recall this event and build on your gratitude mindset.
  10. Keep a gratitude journal. This is simply jotting down the things you’re optimistic about each day, helping to build an attitude towards gratitude. You can complete yours within the app at any time!

Use the above tips, and you’ll be well on your way to shifting towards an attitude of gratitude. And don’t forget to participate in the guided gratitude sessions whenever you want to build on this skill.
