Focus

Developing Focus With Eczema

Introduction

Concentration is the control that you have over your attention. It’s our ability to focus the mind on one subject, object or thought at any one time. But this isn't always easy in a world of notifications and distractions. This is even more difficult when you’re experiencing the discomfort of a flare-up or a nagging itch.

Here, we’ll share some scientific techniques to overcome distractions and enter a deeper state of focus.

Eliminate Distractions

It can take up to 23 minutes to regain focus once we’ve been distracted. So it’s essential to eliminate any distractions in your surroundings. Silence notifications, and turn on focus mode to help you get in the zone. Several apps will also force block sites and apps if you need a heavier-handed approach.

Reduce Multitasking

The research shows that as humans, we aren’t actually any good at multitasking. Context switching serves to only distract the brain. Instead, try to focus on one thing at a time.

Practice Mindfulness

Learning to simply live in the present has been shown to be effective at reducing stress and helping with sleep. Not only does this help with activities important for productivity, but mindfulness directly enables you to focus. It works by helping to re-wire connections in the brain to improve attention. You’ll find several guided sessions for concentrating within the app.

Take Regular Breaks

Periods of high-intensity focus are key to improved productivity. But these periods also require a lot of energy, which is why short and frequent breaks are essential. A good structure to achieve this is the Pomodoro technique. This involves a set period of work followed by a short break. Usually, this is split into 25-minute work periods followed by a 5-minute break.

Eat The Right Foods

Your brain requires healthy fats to function effectively. Sources of these nutrients include nuts, berries, avocados, and coconut oil. Research has also found that foods like blueberries stimulate oxygen flow to the brain and help with focussed concentration.

Cognitive Training

Computerised brain games have been shown to improve your reflexes and attention. These games effectively develop the cognitive skills necessary to achieve higher productivity. It’s not the actual performance that matters, but the act of pushing your brain to engage in challenges. Try these regularly to elevate your attention.

Green Time

The power of nature is pretty staggering. So much so that simply glancing at nature significantly boosts focus levels and productivity. So whether it’s a stroll in the park or buying a plant for your home office, get some more green time to elevate your focus.

Conclusion

So there you have it, 7 tried and tested techniques to enhance your focus and productivity. Don't forget to regularly engage in the guided sessions to increase your attention whenever you need a boost.
